Erik ten Hag’s future has been discussed at length in recent weeks. It looks like he will remain Manchester United manager for the foreseeable future but to keep his job, an improvement is required on the pitch.
United are positioned 14th in the Premier League after a terrible start to the season. To make matters worse, the Reds have drawn their first two matches in the Europa League.
Mick Brown, who worked at United for over a decade, has exclusively told Football Insider that Ten Hag’s treatment of Marcus Rashford has led to growing concerns within the dressing room.
United drew 3-3 with FC Porto in the Europa League as Rashford scored the opening goal and performed strongly in the first-half. However, Ten Hag decided to take him off at half-time before confirming that his withdrawal was for squad rotation as Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench.
It was a decision Brown admits he couldn’t understand.
Erik ten Hag’s decision questioned by players

“I don’t understand the issue with Marcus Rashford,” he told Football Insider.
“In the week [against Porto], he played like the Rashford we know, running at defenders, causing all sorts of trouble and scoring a goal.
“Then he gets taken off at half-time and you assume he’s picked up an injury, but when Ten Hag was asked about it he said it was rotation.
“It’s bizarre. Very, very difficult to fathom the thinking behind that. It’s not the first time it’s happened either.
“I’ve heard there are a few frustrations in the dressing room because of these decisions and the way he’s treating the players.
“The main issue with Ten Hag, for me, is trying to understand these decisions he makes.
“All that sort of thing [taking Rashford off at half-time] does is it just ramps up the pressure.”
