Rivers governor Siminalyi Fubara will swear in former factional Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Edison Ehie as his Chief of Staff and five special advisers today, Monday 29, January 2024.

The appointment of Ehie as Chief of Staff House was confirmed in a statement signed by Dr Tammy Danagogo, the Secretary to Rivers Government late night on Sunday.

The appointment of Edison Ehie as Chief of Staff has finally put paid to the speculations about his political future after he voluntarily resigned as a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Ehie led a four-member faction of Rivers Assembly loyal to Fubara following the split of the legislative chamber between supporters of the Governor and lawmakers in support of his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.

There were speculations that the Rivers Governor had appointed the former lawmaker as his Chief of Staff immediately after his resignation, but this was not confirmed until the statement issued yesterday.

His resignation as a lawmaker and Speaker was believed to be part of the controversial peace ‘deal’ brokered by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in settling the political crisis in Rivers between Fubara and Wike, now the Minister of Federal Capital Territory.

Aside Ehie, Fubara will also swear in Special Advisers today. Those to be sworn in by the Rivers governor include Dr.Darlington Orji, a former State Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who recently resigned as the Chief of Staff, Ikwerre Local Government Council Area.

The others are: Prince Solomon Abel Eke, former Caretaker Committee Chairman, Obio-Akpor local government area,Barr. Aminayanasam Fiberesima, Engr. Deeyah Bariene and Ohia Prince.

“The newly appointed Chief of Staff and Special Advisers alongside one guest each are expected to be seated at the Executive Council Chambers of the Government House, Monday, 29th January, 2024 at 10:30am, for the swearing- in ceremony by His Excellency, the Governor of Rivers State at 11:00am.” the Rivers State SSG said in his statement.
