Last night, it was confirmed that Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye will leave the club to sign for Rennes in Ligue 1.

The 20-year-old youngster was left out of Hansi Flick’s first-team plans for the season as the Senegalese defender failed to impress the new Barcelona manager in pre-season.

Faye had a number of notable clubs across Europe vying for his signing but he opted to sign for Rennes and is set to travel to France today to finalise the transfer.

Financial details of the operation

As was reported yesterday, Barcelona will receive a transfer fee of €12 million for Faye while they also have retained a buyback clause as well as a future sell-on percentage.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has come forward with more details about the agreement between Barcelona and Rennes for the young centre-back.

The transfer expert confirms that Faye will cost Rennes a transfer fee of €12 million but seems to suggest that the reported value includes €4 million in add-ons.

Furthermore, Romano reveals the buyback clause amounts that Barcelona have secured for the Senegalese international.

Barça can re-sign Faye from Rennes for a fee of €35 million after one year while that amount would rise to €40 million in 2026, two years after his move to the Ligue 1 side.

Furthermore, as mentioned above, the Blaugrana have a future sell-on clause for the 20-year-old, which is reported to be around 25%.

All in all, the entire operation seems to be quite beneficial for Barcelona who signed Faye only a year ago for a fee of just €1.5 million.

Faye will say goodbye to his teammates and fly to France to today to complete his medical and finalise the operation.
