The death toll resulting from the Zakkat collection stampede during the distribution of Ramadan gifts by philanthropist AYM Shafa has risen to 15, inclusive of women and children.

Yahaya Mohammed, the Secretary of the Dungulbe main cemetery in Bauchi, gave details of the increased death toll, stating, “Today (Monday), they brought one of the corpses, a woman, apart from 14 corpses of (Sunday). The woman they brought today was from the Jahun area of Bauchi metropolis.”

Mohammed disclosed, “We have buried a total of 15 people from the stampede victims, including 12 adults and three children.”

The victims’ names provided by Mohammed are:

Alti Abdullahi Digan Yaya, 55 years Maryam Suleiman, 12 years Nana Khadija Suleiman, 7 years Aisha Ibrahim Kobi, 43 years Maryam Shuaibu, 16 years Aishatu Usman, 13 years Haiwau Musa, Sabon Kaura, 50 years Aishatu Saidu Khandahar, 55 years Amina Abdullahi, 40 years Umaimah Yahaya, 13 years Sahura Abubakar, 48 years Zainab Ahmad, 12 years Isa Aliyu Zango, 3 years old Khadija Yahaya, 5 years old

Additionally, the Bauchi State Police Command confirmed four deaths initially reported, but revealed that three more injured women had died, bringing the total to seven.

SP Ahmed Wakili, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, stated, “Seven people have now died following the stampede,” adding, “Medical doctors at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) have confirmed that three more women died at the hospital among those brought for treatment. As at the time we gave our report, there were four, but presently we have seven with their names and addresses.”

According to Daily Trust, Wakil provided the names of the victims as follows:

Aisha Usman, 13 years Sahura Abubakar, 55 years Aisha Ibrahim Abubakar, 43 years Khadija Isah, 8 years Karofi Bauchi Maryam Suleiman, 20 years of Kandahar Bauchi Maryam Shuaibu, 16 years of Gwangwangwan Bauchi Hassana Saidu, 53 years of Dutsen Tanshi Bauchi
