EXCLUSIVE: Gabriel Chavarria (Selena: The Series) is set to executive produce and star in Real Ones, an indie drama from director Nick Anderson, who wrote the script with Alma Leiva.

In the film produced by Justin Nesbitt, the actor will play Joseph, a sharp-witted ex-con fighting to rebuild his life after prison while resisting the pull of his criminal past. Faced with prejudice and the risk of losing his family, Joseph takes a legitimate job at a law firm to prove his worth and redefine himself. But as his charming yet troubled best friend Esteban tempts him back into the world of drugs and gangs, and his fiery partner Tina struggles with her own hidden battles, Joseph realizes redemption isn’t just about changing how others see him — it’s about changing how he sees himself.

Chavarria played A.B. Quintanilla, record producer and brother of the late Tejano singer Selena, in Netflix’s Selena: The Series, which ran for two seasons, and has also been seen leading The Purge for USA Network, as well as Hulu’s Daytime Emmy Award-nominated series East Los High. On the feature side, he’s best known for work in Paramount Pictures’ Freedom Writers opposite Hilary Swank and Patrick Dempsey, Blumhouse’s Lowriders, War for the Planet of the Apes, and the Oscar-nominated A Better Life.

Chavarria is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Momentum Talent and Literary Agency, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
