Gary Neville has said that when he saw Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag react to Jamie Carragher, his “heart sank.”

On Wednesday night, United were back at it, securing a narrow win despite yet another lackluster performance.

Man United have reached the FA Cup quarterfinal but the criticism from the defeat against Fulham last weekend continues.

United saw Fulham snatch a late winner to secure a 2-1 win at Old Trafford, halting the recent momentum for Erik ten Hag. The club’s performance and ten Hag’s tactics were severely criticised by Jamie Carragher.

The former Liverpool defender said Fulham were taking advantage of significant holes in the United midfield, which is why he disliked the big gaps there.

In response, Ten Hag said on Tuesday that Carragher was being “subjective” rather than “objective,” implying that he was only trying to criticise United.

However, Gary Neville seems a little let down by the Dutchman’s remarks.

Speaking on The Overlap, Neville said that when he heard Ten Hag take a shot at Carragher, his “heart sank.”

“I must admit, when I saw it yesterday appear, my heart sank a little bit from a United perspective, that he was getting involved in that,” said Neville.

“The reality is that he might be secretly or privately annoyed, and think there’s some points you’ve made that are wrong, but actually, we have conceded a lot of chances, I’m not going to win this one, we’ve just lost a game, I’ve got a big game against Nottingham Forest, let’s not look like I’m even interested in that,” he added.

Despite a recent string of Premier League victories, Ten Hag is obviously still a man under pressure.

INEOS will be closely observing Ten Hag in the upcoming months, and his response to Carragher just serves to confirm the idea that he is under pressure during this pivotal time of the season.
