If OM is having such a difficult season, it is due to several deficiencies. Notably one in particular noted by the coach of the Marseille club.

Friday evening, at 9 p.m., Olympique de Marseille will host FC Metz in the opening match of the 21st day of Ligue 1. The Marseille club must win in order to put an end to the current poor series of results ( only one victory in 2024, against Thionville in the Coupe de France).

Present at a press conference this Thursday, Gennaro Gattuso was questioned about the lack of leader within his team. “These are qualities that you cannot buy in the supermarket. You can’t spend 20 euros to have leadership. We are born with these qualities. We lack consistency. This is a problem that reigns in modern football, it is becoming more and more an individual sport. Leadership is important but our big lack is involvement,” underlined the 46-year-old Italian technician to journalists.

“We need concrete evidence”

Although OM are seven points off the podium and are eliminated from the Coupe de France, Gattuso refuses to give up on the rest of the season. ” Nothing is lost. We always talk about the same mistakes. The season started in a certain way and continues in the same way. There is no point in continuing to talk, now we need concrete proof. It’s up to us to have this team spirit”indicates the former rough midfielder.

For this meeting against the Grenats, the coach of the Olympian club will once again have to do without the services of Murillo, Kondogbia and Veretout.
