It is only a matter of time before Barcelona unveil Hansi Flick as their new manager. The German tactician is set to replace Xavi Hernandez and is expected to soon get things underway, as far as the squad planning is concerned.

Flick, offering a very different set of ideas compared to what one would expect from a Barcelona coach, is likely to recommend multiple new targets to the board for the summer ahead.

Lothar Matthaus on Flick’s targets this summer

While it remains anyone’s guess as to who Hansi Flick may target in the coming summer, German legend Lothar Matthaus has offered some amount of ideas.

In a recent interaction, Matthaus has confirmed that Flick is looking forward to the Barcelona job. “For him, it represents a great challenge despite the financial difficulties he will encounter in Barcelona,” he said (h/t Diario SPORT).

Matthaus claimed that Flick is ready to work with some of his old players, adding, “He wants to reconnect with old friends in his new sporting project like Ter Stegen, Gündogan and Lewandowski. Maybe he takes one or two more with him. I don’t know.”

Matthaus went on to add that Flick might target Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala or Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz. However, the German did acknowledge that both players are currently unrealistic targets for Barcelona.

“Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala. There are many players he would like to have with him at Barcelona, but they probably won’t be financially viable,” he said.

In any case, Flick has already started having an impact on Barcelona’s squad planning and reportedly requested the signing of Bayer Leverkusen starlet Exequiel Palacios.

But knowing that the Argentine might cost a fortune, Flick appears to have given Barcelona the green light to sign a more realistic target in the form of Guido Rodriguez.

The Real Betis midfielder will be one of many new players who is expected to join Barcelona as the club look to usher in a new era under Hansi Flick.
