Gold Fields Ghana Limited (Tarkwa Mine) was ranked number 2 in the country and within the extractive industry, while Abosso Goldfields Limited (Damang Mine) was ranked number 12 at the just-ended Ghana Club 100 Awards (GC100) held in Accra.
This remarkable achievement was further bolstered by the company’s recognition as the 1st runner up for the Best Corporate Social Reasonability Company and Second ranked Company in the Extractive (petroleum and mining) sector.
Organised by the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, the GC100 recognises and celebrates the top 100 companies in the country for their business excellence, innovation and outstanding contributions to national development, as well as corporate social responsibility.
Speaking at the 21st edition of the awards ceremony in Accra last Friday, the Vice President and Interim Managing Director of Gold Fields Ghana, Mr Elliot Twum, said the awards were a testament to the dedication, hard work and commitment of the entire Gold Fields team who strive for excellence in every aspect of their operations.
“We are incredibly honoured to receive these awards, which recognise the significant efforts our team has put into ensuring that we operate sustainably and responsibly. Our ranking in the Ghana Club 100 Awards reflects our commitment to excellence and the positive impact we are making in our host communities,” he stated.
“The recognition as the 1st runner up for the Best CSR Company is particularly meaningful to us. It validates our ongoing efforts to invest in community development and support initiatives that drive sustainable growth.
We believe that our success as a company is intertwined with the wellbeing of the communities we operate in, and we will continue to prioritise their development,” Mr Twum added.
According to him, the achievements underlined Gold Fields’ unwavering commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainable practices, showcasing the positive impact the company has on both its host communities and the country.
Mr Twum again noted that the gold mining giant was focused on delivering high-impact legacy projects and initiatives for host communities in the areas of health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, water, sanitation, and enterprise development, through the Gold Fields Ghana Foundation.
To date, he disclosed that Gold Fields has invested over US$100.4 million in developmental projects and programmes at the Tarkwa and Damang host communities.
