Goldberg is gearing up for his 2025 retirement, and his next stop is Monday Night RAW on January 27 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Wrestling fans are eager to see the WWE Hall of Famer back in action, but questions remain about who will face him in his farewell match.

Dave Meltzer of has shed some light on Goldberg’s potential plans in the latest installment of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, revealing that WWE originally teased a match with World Heavyweight Champion GUNTHER during Bad Blood.

“The angle was shot with Gunther and that was the planned match. I would presume it wouldn’t be for the title. WrestleMania 41 makes sense for it, but it has never been told to us that it would be at Mania,” Meltzer noted.

While the confrontation between Goldberg and GUNTHER set the stage for an epic clash, it seems WWE may be reconsidering its options. Ric Flair has already ruled himself out as a potential opponent, dismissing any speculation about a dream match with Goldberg.

Atlanta is a fitting location for Goldberg’s return, given its importance to his career. From his time with the Atlanta Falcons to becoming a WCW icon, the city holds a special place in his legacy. Fans are expected to pack the arena to witness the next step in his farewell tour, as speculation grows about who will be his opponent.

Goldberg’s return to RAW is just the beginning of what promises to be an unforgettable journey to his retirement. Whether WWE opts for a clash with GUNTHER or surprises fans with another opponent, the January 27 episode is shaping up to be a major moment in Goldberg’s storied career.
