Grammys 2024: Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain’s band Shakti makes India proud by winning Best Global Music Album

Team Shakti made India proud at the Grammys this year. Fusion band Shakti, featuring vocalist Shankar Mahadevan, Ustad Zakir Hussain, John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan won big at the Grammy Awards. Shakti won the Grammy for Best Global Music Album for the band’s This Moment which released in June last year.

Taking to X, Grammys shared the post and wrote, “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment’ Shakti. #GRAMMYs.”

In his acceptance speech, Shankar Mahadevan said, “In his acceptance speech, Mahadevan said, “Thank you boys. Thank you, God, family, friends and India. India, we are proud of you…Last but not least, I would like to dedicate this award to my wife whom every note of my music is dedicated to.”

On the other hand, Zakir once again made India proud by winning “Best Global Music Performance” Grammy for “Pashto” with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring the flute virtuoso Rakesh Chaurasia. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards for 2024 took place in Los Angeles.
