Growing Beggar Menace at Rehti Bowli and Nanal Nagar Junctions Highlights GHMC’s Ineffective Response

Hyderabad: The increasing presence of beggars at Rehti Bowli and Nanal Nagar Junctions is causing significant concern among the city’s residents. Around 10-15 beggars are stationed at each junction, harassing commuters for money. Those who refuse to give are often met with aggression, including scratches on their vehicles. The beggars are not interested in food, only money.

Banjarans have also taken over the footpaths at Tolichowki Junction, claiming to sell balloons but using the area for living and bathing, creating an unsanitary environment. This growing menace is part of a larger begging mafia, with over 3,000 active beggars disrupting public life across the city. Despite previous police crackdowns, including arrests made by the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit, the problem persists.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has been tasked with addressing the issue, but their efforts have proven largely ineffective. Public frustration is mounting as beggars continue to swarm traffic signals, temples, and commercial areas, making daily life increasingly difficult. The mafia behind this racket exploits beggars, including children, who are often brought in from other states and forced into this dangerous network for monetary gain.
