Senator Adams Oshiomhole, the top leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has urged Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun to take immediate action in response to a recent killing in Edo State.

The incident occurred as Philip Shaibu, newly reinstated as Deputy Governor of Edo State by a federal high court, returned to Benin City. The situation turned violent when a police officer, who was attached to APC governorship candidate Monday Okpebholo, was killed.

This killing has heightened tensions in the state ahead of the upcoming governorship election, leading to a blame game between Shaibu’s supporters and the Edo State government. Despite police claims of an ongoing investigation, Oshiomhole demands more decisive action.

Oshiomhole emphasized that the Edo Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, must fulfill his duties under the Police Act by identifying and prosecuting those responsible for the crime. He called on IGP Egbetokun to ensure that the commissioner meets this responsibility.
