Gunther won the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and eventually became the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion in history. With his current role in WWE comes a lot of responsibilities and Gunther has disclosed the sacrifices he has made for his current run.

Gunther and ex-WWE NXT UK star Jinny were married in May 2023 and eventually welcomed their first child at the end of last year. Gunther had to take some time off to be with his wife and child but has since come back.

While speaking to GVWire, Gunther discussed the sacrifices he makes for his WWE career, detailing a hectic schedule of flying, going to the gym, performing at the venue, and then driving to the next location, often staying in hotels. Despite the tight schedule, he acknowledges it as the life of a wrestler, something he always wanted to do.

We fly over and then arrive, go to the gym, go to the venue, do my match, and then get in the car again. And then we’re actually going to drive to Fresno and stay in a hotel there, and then wake up in the morning and repeat. That’s basically what it is. It’s a very tight schedule. But it’s the life of a wrestler. And that’s what I always wanted to do.”

Gunther mentions the downside of leaving his family behind, particularly his wife Jinny and their child. However, he sees it as a necessary sacrifice to provide a better life for his family, hoping that the hard work now will lead to a unique and fulfilling life in the future.

”That is the downside. And it’s just the price to pay, a little bit. But it’s also the things like my wife, Jinny, she used to wrestle before, so she knows the business. And I got a great backup there. And it’s always hard leaving a little one behind because I don’t want to miss anything. But on the other hand, I’m out there providing a great life for my family and, to sacrifice that you do now and then, the idea is that later on, you can live a life that nobody is able to live after you put the work in.”

Gunther also expressed his uncertainty over squaring off against Brock Lesnar in the future. Regardless, Gunther knew very well all the sacrifices he had to make as a full-time WWE Superstar and he doesn’t regret it one bit, which is all that matters to him right now.
