Gunther has established himself as one of the greatest WWE Superstars of all time ever since he debuted in the company back in January 2019. He had a terrific rivalry with Chad Gable last year but it abruptly stopped. Gunther has now made it clear he is open to facing Chad Gable at WrestleMania 40.
Chad Gable and Gunther faced each other multiple times last year, with Gable notably handing Gunther his first loss on the main roster in August via count-out.
In September, Gunther defended his title against Chad Gable in another highly regarded match. Gable came close to victory, but Gunther rallied, employing a lethal combination of moves to defeat Gable, shattering his dreams and even eliciting tears from Gable’s daughter. Strangely, the two never crossed paths again, and WWE abruptly abandoned the storyline.
While speaking on The Battleground Podcast, Gunther was asked about Chad Gable’s recent comments about their feud ending abruptly and that he wants to face Gunther to finish his story.
Gunther noted that Chad Gable is a highly talented in-ring competitor and they had great matches. The Ring General then made it clear that he is open to squaring off against Chad Gable at WrestleMania 40.
”Um, I honestly got to say he’s not the only one I guess that’s just the life of a champion that the bunch of guys want a piece of that. That being said, I think he’s a phenomenal athlete, he’s a great technician and the matches we had I think were phenomenal and the audience enjoyed them a lot. So, if it should come to that for WrestleMania then yeah I’m here for it.”
We will have to wait and see whether Gunther will put his Intercontinental Championship on the line against Chad Gable at the Showcase of The Immortals this year, as fans would love to see Gable beat The Ring General for the title.
