Gunther claimed the WWE Intercontinental Championship in June 2022 and made history by becoming the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion ever. His impressive run ended at WrestleMania 40 on Saturday, but he has stated his intention to recover and make a strong comeback.

Under Chad Gable’s mentorship, Sami Zayn faced Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 40 on Saturday. Although Gunther displayed dominance throughout the match, Zayn’s determination prevailed. He unleashed a series of powerful Helluva Kicks, securing the victory and ending Gunther’s reign as Intercontinental Champion.

The Ring General took to social media and uploaded a photo of himself with Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40, notably the spot where Zayn hit Gunther with a brainbuster. Gunther noted that the sky was the limit for him.

”The higher you climb, the harder you fall – Sky is the limit!”

With Gunther no longer holding the Intercontinental Championship, his future in WWE is uncertain. He may pursue the World Heavyweight Championship after WrestleMania 40, aiming to make an impact in the title scene. Fans will have to wait and see what path Gunther chooses as he continues his career in WWE.
