As far as weeks go, it was one of Harry Kane’s worst.

The Bayern Munich striker started with a brutal 3-0 defeat to Bundesliga title rivals Bayer Leverkusen, and ended with a 3-1 embarrassment against Bochum in a must-win clash.

In between that, they lost the first leg of the Champions League last 16 tie against Lazio 1-0, making it three defeats on the bounce.

Already out of the DFB Pokal to third-tier Saarbrucken, and with the DFL Super Cup lost on his debut, it’s now looking likely that Kane could continue his astonishing record of never winning a professional trophy.

That’s despite leaving Tottenham in a £100million deal to move to a Bayern Munich team where trophies are almost-certain.

The top-of-the-table clash against Leverkusen was billed as a potential title decider, and with Xabi Alonso’s team beating Heidenheim on Saturday, they now have a commanding eight-point lead with 12 games to play.

Reacting to the Bochum shock on social media, Kane wrote: “No hiding from a tough week with performances and results not at the level we expect from ourselves.

“Got to pull together as a group and push forward - big run of important games coming up to turn it round.”

The result was a huge shock to Bayern but maybe not so much for Kane given his history.

The England captain is a regular user of X, formerly Twitter, and often posts to his 3.9million followers after games.

However, it’s not the first time he’s apologised for a ‘tough week’ having written the words on four previous occasions.

In fact, since signing up on the social media platform, Kane has used the word ‘tough’ to explain a bad result, week, or even season.

After the 2020/21 season when Spurs finished seventh in the table and lost the League Cup final after sacking Jose Mourinho, Kane wrote: “Great to get a win to finish the season.

“Been a tough season for lots of reasons but thanks for all the support it’s always appreciated and thanks for the fans awards.”

And it’s not just club football that brings tough times for the striker, with him also posting after a 2-0 Nations League defeat to Belgium in 2020.

“Tough loss to take tonight,” he wrote. “Lots of positives to take from that performance. We learn and move on. Very proud to reach 50 caps for England!”
