Newcastle 3 Bromley 1 – Sunday 12 January 2025 3pm
The photo that Newcastle United fans had all really really wanted to see after Sunday afternoon at St James’ Park.
The visitors living the dream when taking the lead in the 8th minute, a decent shot but one that Dubravka should have saved.
However, Lewis Miley with a rocket of a shot to restore parity in the 16th minute and from that point on it was pretty much attack v defence for the next 80 minutes or so.
Having made nine changes to his starting eleven from the win over Arsenal, to rest certain players and to give some squad members a rare chance, Eddie Howe introduced Gordon and Bruno for the second-half and it was quickly game over.
Targett with great play before getting brought down in the penalty area, Gordon scoring from the spot. Then a brilliant Osula solo effort meant the final half hour or so saw United cruise to progress into the fourth round.
A very professional and disciplined team performance (after the shock opener!).
Another winning snapshot post-match.
Another photo = The fourteenth of this season.
The Newcastle United Head Coach introduced this tradition of a post-match everybody included photo following each victory, as he felt it had worked as a bonding exercise when he was at Bournemouth.
(It is actually the sixteenth victory of the season for United but for whatever reasons, no winning photo after the win over AFC Wimbledon. Then on Tuesday night, I think for sure that no post-match dressing room photo was done due to the fact the Arsenal semi-final tie is only at halfway.)
Seven photos (eight victories!) in a row.
Great to see.
It is also a massive bonus just how much it winds up fans of certain other clubs and journalists.
‘Look at them, think they have won the Premier League / Champions League… etc etc’
I absolutely love it.
Eighteen more Premier League games to go, as well as fingers crossed plenty more cup matches (in both competitions!), so hopefully many more of these photos to come.
As for anybody saying ‘it was only Bromley’, that would be disrespectful to our opponents AND these post-match altogether photos are about Newcastle United winning the match, not who lost it.
