Manchester United have finally reached an agreement with Benfica over a loan move for left-back Alvaro Fernandez, which means his season-long loan at La Liga side Granada will be cut short.
Granada will be disappointed to lose the Spanish left-back midway through the season, after he made 13 La Liga appearances and played 14 games in total across all competitions.
Previous reports this week suggested Fernandez was on the verge of joining the Portuguese champions on a permanent deal this month, but that is no longer the case.
The 20-year-old is in fact on the verge of joining Benfica, as Fabrizio Romano has given the green light with his favourite “here we go” catchphrase but he also said an agreement is now in place between the two clubs.
Romano believes Fernandez will join Benfica on loan for the remainder of the season and the deal includes a buy option clause.

The deal is now at the stage of documents being signed off, exchanged and a medical examination has been booked for the player.

Fernandez was overlooked by Erik ten Hag earlier this season when United had an injury crisis in the defensive department. Now, with Luke Shaw back from injury, Ten Hag will soon have two other full-backs ahead of Fernandez in the pecking order.
He may have a bright future in the game but it makes sense to make some money on Fernandez before his deal expires in the summer.
We would like to with Fernandez the best ahead of his switch to Benfica.
