Free of any contract since his departure from the French women’s team, Hervé Renard is said to be in advanced negotiations with a club.

Appointed coach of the French women’s team in place of Corinne Diacre in March 2023, Hervé Renard decided to leave his post after the elimination of Les Bleues in the quarter-finals of the Paris 2024 Olympic tournament. Now free of any contract, Hervé Renard could take over the reins of an unexpected club.

According to information from the Qatari media Al RayaAl Rayyan accelerates talks to secure Renard’s services, intensifying negotiations to finalize the deal as soon as possible.

A club rather than a selection for Renard?

It must be said that Al Rayyan have had a difficult start to the season, picking up only six points from five Qatari league games, and also suffering a defeat in their only match played in the Asian Champions League. As a result, the current manager of the Gulf team, Poya Asbaghi, finds himself in the hot seat.

It remains to be seen what Hervé Renard thinks of this Al Rayyan offensive. The double winner of the CAN, with Zambia in 2012 and with Côte d’Ivoire in 2015, seemed to have a preference for a selection. Moreover, recently, his name has been circulating on the side of Egypt and Nigeria, who finally opted for the German Bruno Labbadia. But the Qatari club has arguments – financial in particular – to change the French coach’s mind.
