Former First Lady Hillary Clinton posted an encouraging message addressed to Barbie duo Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie this morning in response to their high-profile snubs amongst the nominations for this year’s Academy Awards.

“Greta & Margot. While it can sting to win the box office but not take home the gold,” Clinton began her note on X and Instagram, “your millions of fans love you.”

Clinton ended her message with a reference to Ryan Gosling’s now-Oscar-nominated Barbie tune ‘I’m Just Ken.’ She said: “You’re both so much more than Kenough.”

Barbie scored a total of eight Oscar nominations yesterday morning. Gerwig was not named in the Best Director category and Robbie didn’t land a Best Actress nom. Having co-written Barbie alongside Noah Baumbach, Gerwig did receive a nom in the Adapted Screenplay category. Although Robbie didn’t land an acting nomination, being a producer of the film, she is in the running for an Oscar in the Best Picture race alongside David Herman, Tom Ackerley, and Robbie Brenner.

Barbie‘s America Ferrera received an unexpected Supporting Actress nom, which Gosling highlighted in an open letter Tuesday afternoon following his nom in Best Supporting Actor.

“I am so happy for America Ferrera and the other incredible artists who contributed their talents to making this such a groundbreaking film,” he said.

Gosling also chimed in on Gerwig and Robbie missing out on key nominations.

“There is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film,” he said in the note.

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit, and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”
