How a WhatsApp conversation changed everything for 23-year-old forward at Barcelona – report

Last summer, a certain Ferran Torres was largely expected to depart Barcelona for more than one reason. First, the club needed funds to comply with the financial fair play and second, the former Manchester City forward was not a consistent presence in Xavi’s XI.

Fast forward to the date and the 23-year-old has become a vital member of the team, having scored 11 goals and four assists in 29 outings, including a hat-trick against Real Betis.

It’s been a long journey for Torres

Although Torres scored seven goals and three assists last season, it was far from a convincing return from the young forward.

However, it was not just about the numbers; he struggled with the way he played. He had an injury before the season started, and that affected his performance throughout. 

Furthermore, even though Barcelona won La Liga, they wanted to make big changes in the summer, especially in the offensive part of the team. 

Torres, along with others, was considered for a possible departure. It is to be noted that Xavi suggested to Torres that it might be a good idea to find a new team where he could play more, but during his vacation, he thought about it and decided not to give up.

A WhatsApp message changed everything

Right away, Ferran sent a WhatsApp message to the manager. Interestingly enough, the message wasn’t too long or too short as he only wanted to convey that he is “prepared to succeed at Barça,” reports SPORT. 

He promised to work hard and give his all for the team, believing he could contribute a lot on and off the field. It wasn’t just a talk, he really meant what he said.

As for Xavi, he was both surprised and confused. He didn’t expect Torres’ commitment to be part of his plans, and it bothered him.

At the same time, he was impressed by his strong personality as it’s not usual for a player to go against their club’s intentions like this.

In a way, Xavi also understood Torres’ deep dedication to Barcelona and his personal goals. However, he couldn’t help but be a bit skeptical.

Talking is one thing, but seeing it in action on the field is another matter. However, as it turns out, Torres has indeed delivered his promise.
