Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has voiced his concerns about the exploitation of Nigeria’s crude oil resources, particularly by individuals from the Niger Delta region where most of the country’s oil is produced. In a video shared by Channels TV, Fayose discussed a troubling situation involving threats to bomb the Dangote Refinery if it continued its crude oil processing activities.

Fayose explained that these threats stem from fears among certain groups that the refinery’s operations would disrupt their illegal oil-related profits. These individuals, who benefit from unauthorized activities in the oil sector, view the refinery’s legitimate processing as a threat to their income.

He questioned how people, whether from the Niger Delta or elsewhere, could exploit Nigeria’s crude oil resources to such an extent. The former governor highlighted the severity of the situation, noting that some individuals are willing to resort to extreme measures, such as bombing, to protect their illicit interests.

Fayose condemned the mentality of those who believe their illegal activities should be preserved at the expense of national development and economic stability. He expressed disbelief that people could consider such drastic actions merely to maintain their illegal profits.

During an interview on Channels Television, he remarked, “How can somebody who is not from Niger Delta or somebody who is from Niger Delta tapping Nigeria’s crude oil. How can people come together and say we are going to go and bomb Dangote if he continues to process the product (crude oil) because it will take food away from some people, what a country”.
