Renowned Nollywood actor Zack Orji recently shared a harrowing tale of survival, revealing that he underwent two brain surgeries in Nigeria following a critical medical emergency.

During an interview on Channels TV, Orji recounted the terrifying moment when he collapsed in the bathroom, leading to his prolonged unconsciousness. He expressed gratitude for his survival, saying, “I slumped in the bathroom, and I can only say that it’s by the grace of God that I’m alive today because I passed out. I was out for like five and a half hours before help came.”

Orji’s friend, Bala Ahmed, who was in the UK at the time, swiftly responded to the emergency after being alerted by people at Orji’s residence. Orji recalled the moment, stating, “Benedict Johnson rushed to the house, and I was there on the floor, incoherent. I couldn’t even stand because when he raised me, I slumped again, and he had to call another colleague whom we call Labista. So the two of them lifted me on their shoulders from the second floor to the ground floor and took me to the National Hospital.”

His wife, who was in Lagos, immediately flew to Abuja upon learning of the situation. The first surgery, performed by Dr. Biodun Ogungbo, a neurosurgeon, took place on January 1st. Orji praised Dr. Ogungbo, describing him as “an awesome guy.”

Following a month-long recovery, a residual blood clot necessitated a second surgery, again performed by Dr. Ogungbo.

Orji expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support he received from various prominent figures, including the President of Nigeria, the First Lady, the Vice President’s wife, and several ministers. He acknowledged the outpouring of concern and assistance from people worldwide, noting, “I was receiving calls from South Africa, from the UK, from the US, from some of them were willing to, they were asking me, how can we help? How can we be of assistance? So it was overwhelming the way people responded to the whole thing.”

Upon his recovery in Nigeria, Orji sought post-surgery assessment in the UK, consulting with Dr. John Yeh. Reflecting on his journey, Orji reiterated his gratitude, stating, “I’m grateful to God Almighty and I’m also grateful to so many people who stepped in.”
