Hulk Hogan addressed the tension between him and Bret Hart, claiming that Bret hated everybody, not just him.

The Hulkster and The Hitman had a mixed time together in the WWE and WCW. While the pair were friends at one point, Hogan refused to drop the WWE Championship to Bret Hart at Summerslam 1993.

They only wrestled one match together, in a throwaway match on an episode of WCW Nitro. Bret has spoken poorly about Hogan over the years, although the WWE Hall of Famer clearly hasn’t taken the criticism to heart.

Hulk Hogan appeared on the IMPAULSIVE Podcast, where he spoke to Logan Paul about Bret Hart. He explained how Bret Hart hates not just Hogan, but “everybody”.

Hogan went on to explain how the pair worked together in Jim Crockett Promotions at the start of their careers.

“Bret Hart hates everybody. It’s not just me—it’s Flair, it’s Vince. You know, ‘I’ll never work for Vince again after what happened to my family,’ and then he’s back. It just never ends with him. And I love Bret to death, man. I started with Bret. I remember when I was in Atlanta, I’d been in the business about three years, and I was like 330, almost 340 pounds—all natural, by the way [Laughs].

“I just remember Bret used to live across the hall from me when I was working for Channel 17, what was it—Crockett Promotion? I was so big that they’d have me wrestle three guys at once. I’d pick all three of them up in a bear hug and just ragdoll them. Bret was one of them, you know, and I’d throw him down. But we were all just getting started, so it was all fun.”

Hulk Hogan Doesn’t Get Why Bret Hart Is Bitter

Hulk Hogan continued, explaining how he didn’t “get” why Bret Hart was so angry at him. He called the Canadian a “great asset” and a “good guy.”

“He says I destroyed his career. It’s like, ‘OK, all right, whatever.’ I just don’t get it,” Hogan said. “I love him to death. He’s a good guy, and he was a great asset to the business, you know?”

Logan Paul then questioned why Bret Hart, who had his career ended by Goldberg, had his WWE run ended by underhanded tactics by Vince McMahon and saw his brother die in the ring due to negligence, might be slightly bitter about the business.

There was also the time Hogan won the WWF Championship in an impromptu “match” at WrestleMania IX, overshadowing Hart’s main event match with Yokozuna. Hogan previously said Bret blamed him for forcing him out of the title picture.

Hulk Hogan on WrestleMania IX

“The only other person was Bret Hart, who thought I basically sabotaged his career,” Hulk Hogan said. “Because Bret thought he should have been the greatest wrestler that ever lived. And he said it was my fault. Okay. The Bret Hart thing I really didn’t understand because when he got pissed at me, basically I won the belt from Yokozuna at a WrestleMania where Bret lost and Bret told me to go in the ring and wrestle,” Hogan said on the Full Send Podcast. “I won the belt right after Bret wrestled. And the deal was for me to drop it back to Yokozuna.

“And then Bret got my face and said, ‘Hey, you’re supposed to drop the belt to me!’ I said, ‘No, I’m not.’ He goes, ‘Well, yeah, you are.’ I said, ‘So let’s go talk to Vince then.’ So we both went in and sat down and talked to Vince. Then Vince looked at Bret and said, ‘Bret, that’s what you thought you heard.’ So ever since then, he hated my guts and wanted to kill me.

“Then, when Eric Bischoff asked me if I could work with him at WCW, I said, ‘Hell Yeah, bring him in. I can work with anybody.’ All of a sudden, we had about eight or nine great matches. We got along great. We traveled together. And then, when WCW was over, he hated me again. Okay, whatever, but it’s just stuff like that.”
