Manchester United officially announced Joshua Zirkzee’s arrival at the club this afternoon, making him the first signing of the summer and the INEOS era.
The forward signs from Bologna on a five-year deal with the option of an additional season, having been targeted to ease the goalscoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund after Anthony Martial’s departure.
On Wednesday evening, Zirkzee came head-to-head with two of his new teammates, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw, when his native Netherlands took on England in the Euro 2024 semi-final. Of course, the Three Lions ultimately reigned successful thanks to Ollie Watkins’ emphatic 90-minute winner, but United’s latest recruit still took the time to introduce himself to Mainoo post-match.
A picture of the pair’s exchange quickly circulated on social media given that, at the time, Zirkzee’s move hadn’t been confirmed nor finalised yet.
Supporters were speculating over what was said – but they needn’t guess any longer, as the Dutchman has now revealed the details of his quick chat with Mainoo.
“He [Mainoo] asked me if I was coming… I said see you soon, after the final!” Zirkzee told club media in a newly-released clip.
