Iconic captain of the Racing Club de Lens, Brice Samba gave an interview to the newspaper l’Équipe. The French international looked back on the last 12 turbulent months within the club and notably mentioned the departure of Franck Haise.
The Sang et Or goalkeeper was surprised by the departure of the French coach for OGC Nice and also tried everything to retain him.
» The departure of Franck Haise? I tried to hold him back, we all tried, but hey I think the damage was done. The coach had surely made his decision a while ago, it’s up to him to answer. Maybe the club was no longer going in the direction he wanted. Everyone has their own reasons, which must be respected. These departures were an important moment in the lives of everyone here. Earlier, we had already had those of “Flo” Ghisolfi (sports director in October 2022), of Laurent Bessière (performance director, a month later). All these guys really put RC Lens where it is now,” he told the newspaperTeam.
Now, the RCL has begun a new era under the leadership of Will Still. The Sang et Or have had a more than decent start to the season with a 7th position in Ligue 1, just 4 points behind 4th place and the Champions League.
The only downside was the elimination in the round of 32 of the Coupe de France against Paris Saint-Germain.
