Not many would have fathomed a reunion to be on the cards when Xavi Simons left Barcelona in 2019.
The youngster was, at the time, one of La Masia’s brightest talents and wished for a fast track to the first team assured on his new contract. The administration, however, could not promise the youngster any such assurance, leading them to part ways.
Simons, however, is back on Barcelona’s radar after his impressive performances in recent years. While a return home is indeed complicated, Joan Laporta and Co. are willing to make the effort.
Simons is in Barcelona
The 21-year-old RB Leipzig star is enjoying life in Germany but will return to PSG after the end of his loan spell next summer. A move to his boyhood club, however, is said to tempt him immensely.
Now, amidst rumours of his move home and interest from both parties, Simons was spotted in Barcelona earlier today. It is, however, unknown if it has anything to do with a transfer.
The youngster has started 31 games for Leipzig in the Bundesliga this season, scoring seven goals and providing 11 assists for Marco Rose’s men.
As a dominant force endowed with pace and trickery, Xavi sees him as the perfect player to take over duties on Barcelona’s left flank should the move come to fruition.
In PSGs plans
Simons’ great run of form provides Barcelona with a solid reason to pursue his signing in June. However, the move will be anything but simple.
After all, the 21-year-old is said to have caught Luis Enrique’s eye and the Spanish tactician hopes to incorporate him into the PSG first team next season.
Should he eventually move out on loan once more, the German outfit appear to have the upper hand considering their good relationship with Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s side.
