The President-General of Amakohia autonomous community, Ikeduru, in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Goddie Ukwu, has lamented the poor condition of the only government secondary school in the community, appealing to the government for intervention for a face-lift.

Ukwu said it was painful that the only public secondary school for the community, Okpuala Community School, was in ruins and negated the intent of mind building.

He averred that the school had gone beyond repairs and needed an overhaul because it was on the verge of collapsing.

He said the deplorable state of the school was the reason staffers sought job opportunities elsewhere for fear of their lives, as the school could boast of only five teachers, while students, on their part, were leaving the school in droves.

He said, “We need another secondary school here badly, or the government should help us renovate the existing one before it collapses.

“All the classrooms are leaking, some roofs had fallen off, the floors are cracked, there were no chairs and tables, no sporting equipment, no borehole to provide water, insufficient staff, we really need assistance here and quick too.”
