Speaking to the media (h/t Fabrizio Romano), Hull City winger Jaden Philogene has confirmed that he will not be joining Barcelona this summer.

Over the past few days, speculations have been rife that the 22-year-old English attacker has been identified as a target by the Blaugrana.

The Catalans are in the market for a new left-winger and want Nico Williams as their main target. But someone like Philogene was seen as a possible backup, with Hull City’s owner even confirming the interest.

At the same time, though, the England U-21 international was also attracting serious interest from clubs in the Premier League and he has now confirmed that he will choose to stay in England despite Barcelona being his dream.

“I chose the Premier League because it is the clearest offer I have, but my dream is still La Liga,” said Philogene.

“Barça is my dream, I hope I can sign for them one day. My idols are Ronaldinho and Neymar,” the Hull City star added.

Having joined Hull City on a permanent transfer from Aston Villa last summer, Philogene enjoyed a productive campaign in the EFL Championship during which he scored 12 goals in 30-odd games.

A talented and skilful winger with an eye for a goal, Philogene may have piqued Barcelona’s interest, but he was never a priority for the club.

As such, he has opted to stay in England and will now choose his next club with the likes of Everton, West Ham United, and Ipswich Town interested in acquiring his services.

As for Barcelona, Nico Williams of Athletic Club remains the top target and work is already underway to sign him.
