EXCLUSIVE: Independent Artist Group has elevated Nathan DeRemer to Partner, upping Anthony Marotto to Vice-President, Physical Production.
DeRemer began his career at APA in 2013 — prior to the agency’s merger with Artist Group International to form IAG — within three years rising through the ranks to TV Lit Agent. The Berkeley grad quickly established himself as a tastemaker in the department and was promoted to Vice President, Scripted Literary in 2021. In his time at IAG, he’s cultivated an eclectic roster of premium storytellers and brokered numerous multimillion dollar overall deals for clients at HBO, FX, Amazon, and WBTV. He’s also spearheaded competitive spec sales that led to series orders at AMC and Freeform/Hulu, and recently had back-to-back seasons with pilot production orders at CBS (Jumpstart) and ABC (Forgive and Forget).
DeRemer’s client roster includes House of the Dragon writer/producer Kevin Lau and Found pilot director and EP DeMane Davis, as well as showrunners Jose Molina (The Boroughs), Dara Resnik (The Horror of Dolores Roach), Paul Zbyszewski (Snowpiercer), Pilar Golden (Beyond Black Beauty), Shelley Meals (IT: Welcome to Derry), Eduardo Cisneros (Acapulco), Felicia D. Henderson (First Kill), Pat Charles (Black Lightning) and Brendon Small (Metalocalypse), whose band Dethklok generated multiple successful national tours in the past year.
A passionate champion of theater, DeRemer has helped break numerous playwrights into TV and film including Madhuri Shekar (3 Body Problem), Tearrance Arvelle Chisholm (Clipped), Kara Lee Corthron (Servant), Aaron Carter (The Crossover), Katherine DiSavino (Silo), Megan King Kelly (The Decameron), Juliany Taveras (With Love), Liba Vaynberg (Star City), and Angelica Cheri (Godfather of Harlem).
Other writer clients include David Hayter (Watchmen), Scott Kosar (The Haunting of Hill House), Emmy winner Rick Cleveland (House of Cards), Imagen Award winner Luisa Leschin (Gentefied), Lucas Brown Eyes (Duster), Kelli Breslin (You), Dani Parker (The Fall of the House of Usher), Josh Levy & Prathi Srinivasan (Emily in Paris), Caitlin Schneiderhan (Stranger Things), Sarah Tarkoff (Star Trek: Strange New Worlds), Delondra Mesa (American Rust), and Matt K. Turner (Manifest). Additional director clients include Deborah Kampmeier (The Gilded Age) and Axelle Carolyn (Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen).
In a joint statement on DeRemer’s promotion, IAG’s EVP and Head of Content Development, Kyle Loftus, and Head of Television Literary, Lindsay Howard Parker, said: “Nathan is an essential asset in our scripted lit department with an incredible ability to identify talent and potential at an early stage as well as represent deeply established writer producers. We pride ourselves on our homegrown success stories at IAG, starting in the mailroom and now becoming a partner. His promotion is well earned and his future is very bright.”
With his promotion to VP Physical Production, Marotto becomes the most senior agent in the IAG East Coast Physical Production Division, which he was instrumental in establishing. Marotto has been pivotal in fostering relationships between directors, producers, and other below-the-line talents throughout the U.S. and Canada in furtherance of their careers. His efforts have facilitated a plethora of successful collaborations, including securing key placements for clients such as producer Derek Rappaport on FX’s What We Do in the Shadows, production designer Nazgol Goshtasbpour on Amazon’s hit series Reacher, and spinoff series Neagley, as well as producer Angi Bones, who is now President of Original Programming at Tyler Perry Studios, on Single Drunk Female, and cinematographer Andrew Shulkind, now SVP of Capture & Innovation at MSG Sphere Studios.
Marotto joined APA in 2013 as the agency launched its Below the Line Department, combining senior executives from Paradigm and Montana Artists Agencies to form what is now one of the largest Physical Production Departments in the industry. He has also spearheaded the expansion of IAG’s Physical Production Division extensions in Atlanta and Toronto.
Said IAG’s Executive Vice President/Head Of Global Physical Production, Julian Savodivker, “Anthony is one of the cornerstones of our Physical Production Departments and we are excited to promote him to Vice-President where he can take on added leadership in our New York office. His versatility, team first attitude, attention to detail and incredible contacts make him an invaluable asset to all that we do.”
