FC Barcelona still have a handful of players nursing their respective troubles in the infirmary, but as reported by journalist Santi Gimenez via AS, a certain Ferran Torres is very close to recovering.
In fact, if everything goes as planned the former Valencia and Manchester City forward can appear against Athletic Club this weekend on March 3 when Barcelona travel to San Mames for their La Liga commitment.
Torres’ return depends on his sensations
It is said that the members of the Barcelona squad who find themselves without rest days are those recovering from injuries, attending the training sessions each day.
Presently, the Blaugrana’s infirmary holds Alejandro Balde and Gavi, set to return only in the upcoming season, and Marcos Alonso and Torres, who are nearing the completion of their rehabilitation. Among them, Torres stands as the closest to making a comeback.
Xavi, in his pre-match press conference before facing Getafe, shed light on Torres’ potential return, emphasizing that it hinges on the player’s sensations.
“We’ll see how he feels, but at the moment he’s good. I can’t give you an exact date,” said the manager.
Wasn’t he supposed to recover early?
Initially, there were speculations surrounding Torres pushing himself for the Napoli match, and now there is an assumption regarding his possible return for the crucial clash against Athletic Club next Sunday.
It is to be noted that Torres got injured on January 31 when Barcelona took on Osasuna in a league match. Since then, he has gone on to miss matches and this is happened at a time when he was making notable strides in the attacking front.
This season, Torres has notched up 11 goals, with four of them being registered in the two matches preceding his injury. During these games, he played a pivotal role by securing a decisive goal against Las Palmas and netting a hat-trick against Betis.
