Inside Out 2 is officially the biggest movie of the year in North America! After premiering on June 14, the sequel to Pixar’s 2015 smash hit has become a major box office success. Things were going so well, that it was drawing comparisons to Barbie, the top-grossing movie of 2023. With a second week in theaters, Inside Out 2 pulled in enough to overcome the closest competition for the year. Keep reading to find out more… According to Variety, the animated movie hit $285.7 million in sales in North America. That pushed it past Dune: Part Two, which brought in $282 million. The new record-holder achieved the feat in only eight days. The outlet noted that Inside Out 2 might manage to earn more than $92.3 million in its second full weekend. If it does so, that’ll push it past The Super Mario Bros. Movie‘s record as the animated movie with the top-grossing second weekend. From Friday night (June 21) alone, the movie brought in $30.5 million.
