Lille forward Jonathan David has opened up about his admiration for Barcelona, revealing that he has always been a fan of the club and dreams of wearing their shirt one day.

The 24-year-old Canadian striker is currently one of the most sought-after players in European football. With his contract set to expire in the summer, his name is frequently mentioned as a potential target for some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

So far this season, he has netted an impressive 13 goals in 19 matches for Lille, showcasing his undeniable talent and value on the market.

A Barcelona fan

David admitted that Barcelona holds a special place in his heart, more so than even their rivals Real Madrid. He explained that supporting a club as a young fan naturally leads to the dream of one day playing for them.

“(Barcelona) were always the team I grew up supporting. When you grow up supporting a team, it’s your dream to play for them,” the forward told The Athletic.

It is clear that Barcelona, who have been closely monitoring his situation, are a club that David holds in high regard.

As for the current situation, the Catalan club’s interest is understandable, given that their current striker, Robert Lewandowski, has been exceptional but is nearing the end of his career.

With Lewandowski turning 37 next August, Barcelona will likely be looking for a younger alternative in the near future, and David could be the ideal candidate to step in.

Most wanted in Europe

David’s name is not only being linked to Barcelona but also to several other top clubs across Europe. Juventus, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, and almost every major Premier League club are reportedly keeping tabs on the talented forward.

His future at Lille seems uncertain, and a move to one of Europe’s elite teams appears to be on the horizon.

In the context of Barcelona, the club’s sporting management is aware of David’s situation and is closely monitoring his performances.

With the growing need for a long-term replacement for Lewandowski, it’s likely that Barcelona will be even more focused on David’s progress as the summer transfer window approaches.
