James Murdoch, Barry Diller, Peter Chernin and Michael Lynton are among the 88 top current and retired executives who have signed on to a letter endorsing Kamala Harris for president.
In the open letter, first reported by CNBC, the executives say that Harris’ election is “the best way to support the continued strength, security, and reliability of our democracy and economy.”
Their endorsements are not particularly surprising, given the history of backing Democratic presidential campaigns in the past.
Murdoch, founder and CEO of Lupa Systems, is the former CEO of 21st Century Fox who has departed from the family business. He hosted President Joe Biden at his home in 2022 for a fundraiser for midterm candidates, and backed Biden’s campaign in 2020.
Diller is chairman and senior executive of IAC and senior executive of Expedia; Lynton is the chairman of Snap Inc. and former CEO of Sony Entertainment; and Chernin is the co-founder and partner of TCG.
Others on the list include Ted Leonsis, owner of the NBA’s Washington Wizards, WNBA’s Mystics and the NHL’s Washington Capitals; Jeremy Stoppleman, the CEO of Yelp; Jeff Bewkes, the former CEO of Time Warner; Blair Effron, partner at Centerview Partners; Magic Johnson, CEO of Magic Johnson Enterprises; Marissa Mayer, CEO of Sunshine Products and former CEO of Yahoo!; Sean Parker, the Napster founder and chairman of Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy; and Laurene Powell Jobs, founder and president of Emerson Collective.
Other figures on the list, like entrepreneur Mark Cuban and Greylock partner Reid Hoffman, have been vocal for some time in their support for Biden and then Harris this cycle. Jeffrey Katzenberg, who was co-chair of the Biden campaign and is co-chair of the Harris campaign, also is on the list.
Donald Trump has the backing of figures such as Elon Musk, who has used his X platform to rail against Harris and promote the former president’s candidacy; and Stephen Schwarzman, the CEO of Blackstone.
