Jan Schwieterman, who played the burger-making nemesis to Kenan Thompson’s character in the 1997 Nickelodeon comedy Good Burger, died February 28 at Mercy Hospital in Washington, Missouri, after a brief battle with cancer. He was 52.
His death only recently came to widespread public notice. His brother Chad Schwieterman announced the death in a Facebook post. “It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of my brother, Jan (JP) Schwieterman. He recently found out he had an aggressive form of stage 4 cancer and passed yesterday evening. Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this difficult time.”
Jan Patrick Schwieterman, known as J.P. to his family, was born in Bluffton, Indiana, on September 30, 1972. He moved to California after high school to become an actor, and in 1994 was cast in an episode of the drama McKenna starring Chad Everett, Eric Close and Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Other guest appearances quickly following, including in episodes of series ER, Forever, NightMan and Undressed. He recurred in four episodes of Felicity starring Keri Russell.
His most memorable role came with Good Burger, the feature film comedy featuring Nickelodeon stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell. As Kurt Bozwell, Schwieterman played the villainous owner of fast food place Mondo Burger, a rival to the Good Burger joint where the characters played by Thompson and Mitchell worked.
Schwieterman largely stepped away from acting following his role in the 2000 movie Fallen Arches, returning in 2007 for one final credit in the film Along The Way.
Schwieterman is survived by mother Clara Reed of Hermann, Missouri; father LeeRoy Schwieterman of Florence, Arizona; sisters Megan and Vanessa; brother Chad; and other extended family.
