EXCLUSIVE: The BET+ Original series Churchy has cast Jasmine Luv in a recurring role for Season 2. Guest stars will include Kirk Franklin and Keith Lee among others.
Inspired by/drawing from/from the mind of standup comedian “KevOnStage” Fredericks, Corey Carr Jr.’s (Fredericks) life takes an unexpected turn when he’s bypassed for leadership of his father’s mega-church. Determined to prove his worth, Corey packs up his dreams and heads to middle-of-nowhere Lubbock, Texas, with lofty ambitions to build his own ministry from the ground up.
However, after quickly stumbling upon the realization that small-town church life is an entirely different ball game, Corey slowly accepts that the path to spiritual leadership might just be funnier and more profound than any sermon could ever teach.
Luv will portray ‘Breanna “Bree” Beverly,’ the warm and charming owner of a local diner who becomes a confidante – and potential love interest – for Pastor Corey Carr (Kevin Fredericks). She joins the returning cast that also includes Mark J.P. Hood, Quin Walters, Tahir Moore, Lexi Allen, Anthony Elfoniza and Nic Few.
“Jasmine Luv is a fantastic example of an actress who began on social media and successfully translated her talents to the screen. She brings an incredible work ethic, passion, comedy and heart to the show, and working with her has been an absolute pleasure. She’s got a very bright future ahead,” Fredericks shared in a statement.
Season 1 also starred Anthony Elfoniza, Lexi Allen, London Solomon, Mark J. P. Hood, and Shani Shockley. Casting for Season 2 includes series regulars Quin Walter and Tahir Moore with Nic Few, Tony Baker, and Tabitha Brown also set to appear.
The full list of Churcy‘s Season 2 guest stars and who they will play is as follows: Franklin as Freight Train, a Hollywood-hopeful inmate with dreams as big as his cellblock. Affion Crockett as Carl Kruz, the eccentric MC hired to rig the Bible Bowl. Norman Towns as Niles Burton, a movie star deeply in love with Pastor Carr’s ex-fiancée. Ramona Rideout as Cindi Strong, a small-town journalist whose off-camera antics always steal the show. Corey Calliet as Big Ray, a pest control pro who helps Pastor Carr out of a sticky situation. And Keith Lee as himself, rating Bree’s cooking.
Churchy was created by Kevin Fredericks, who also serves as an executive producer alongside Melissa Fredericks of KevOnStage Studios. LeBron James, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Lezlie Wills are executive producers for SpringHill. Season 2 will be penned by comedy writers Richard A. Washington and David Murphy.
