EXCLUSIVE: Jayme Lawson (The Batman) has been tapped for a key role in The Running Man, Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the novel by Stephen King for Paramount Pictures.

Lawson plays Sheila, the wife of Glen Powell’s Ben, who struggles to care for their sick child amid a dystopian future, leading to Ben’s participation in the titular competition. Others starring, as previously announced, include Josh Brolin, Karl Glusman, Katy O’Brian, Daniel Ezra, and Lee Pace.

Published by King under the pen name Richard Bachman, 1982’s The Running Man is set in an oppressive future where the government controls the media. The story follows Ben Richards as he volunteers to participate in a deadly game show called The Running Man, which will see him hunted by professional killers over the course of 30 days. Should he survive, he’ll win a cash prize that will help lift his family out of a brutal living situation.

Wright is directing the new film adaptation — the second, on the heels of TriStar’s 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer — from his script written with Michael Bacall. Wright is also producing alongside partner Nira Park and Simon Kinberg, with George Linder executive producing. The film is slated for release on November 21, 2025.

Next to be seen starring opposite twin Michael B. Jordans in Ryan Coogler’s Warner Bros horror film Sinners, which releases on March 7, 2025, Lawson is best known on the film side for turns in Matt Reeves’ The Batman and Gina Prince-Bythewood’s The Woman King. A Juilliard grad who played a young Michelle Obama in Showtime’s The First Lady, also previously starring in National Geographic’s Genius: MLK/X, the actress is repped by UTA, 2AM, and Gang, Tyre, Ramer.
