Jessica Troy is happy to see Grayson Waller back in a PWA ring.

For the first time in 3-and-a-half years, Grayson Waller will grace a Pro-Wrestling Australia ring when he faces Jimmy Townsend at PWA Colosseum on October 12th. Waller last wrestled under the PWA banner in a rumble match at the 2021 “It Started Out With A Kiss” event.

Then, he was known as Matty Wahlberg. Fast forward to 2024, he is Grayson Waller, a former WWE Tag Team Champion. During a recent interview with WrestleZone’s Ella Jay, PWA Heavyweight Champion Jessica Troy shared her thoughts on Waller’s upcoming return to PWA.

“It just makes me smile. It just makes me happy that he’s coming back,” Troy said. “I think it’s so cool that he’s able to do something like that because when he first left, it’s very much like, ‘Oh, he can’t wrestle for us ever again,’ and that’s sad. But now it seems so different, and they’re also open about that kind of stuff. So I think it’s just really cool, and I’m also happy for Jimmy Townsend because he’s going to get that big match experience as well. I’m also sad for me because I have to follow that [at Colosseum], and that sounds hard.”

Waller’s Growth

Though they may have only wrestled on a handful of occasions, Waller and Troy shared a common trainer in the former of Madison Eagles. Additionally, Troy has been a first-hand witness for Waller’s ascension on the Australian indies, and then in WWE.

“[Waller’s growth] is so cool to see,” Troy said. “You can really see him like come into himself within WWE because he was that here. And I feel like he had to build up to get to that level over there again because you have to start from scratch, but he just powers through and makes opportunities for himself. He’s so good at talking, so good at promos and just making stuff happen for him. It’s cool to see him still do that over there in such a large company, and that he still stands out for doing stuff like that. He has his own talk show. That’s such a rare thing to happen in WWE, to be to be trusted with that microphone with everyone out there. That’s pretty cool. That’s someone that’s going to go far.”

Troy’s Ideal ‘Forbidden Door’ Opponents

As Troy alluded to earlier, WWE allowing its talent to wrestle outside of its banner, especially in the modern day, previously seemed impossible. In recent years, though, WWE has opened the forbidden door for cross-promotional matches, such as Waller and Townsend’s in PWA. With this in mind, Troy pointed toward Bayley and Rhea Ripley as talents she’d like to potentially work with from WWE’s roster.

“I think that would be amazing [to wrestle Bayley]. I was also thinking it’d be nice to wrestle Rhea Ripley again because I wrestled her when she was here [in Australia], but it’s been years. And I was like, that would be cool to see her evolution. What she’s done is incredible, incredible stuff.”
