EXCLUSIVE: Amid strong internal buzz, Apple TV+ has handed a very early renewal to its upcoming drama series Your Friends & Neighbors, from creator Jonathan Tropper (Apple’s See, Warrior). Along with the pickup, the streamer has set April 11 as premiere date for the show, starring and executive produced by Emmy winner Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Fargo). First-look images provide a glimpse at Hamm and other actors from the cast, which includes Amanda Peet, Olivia Munn, Hoon Lee, Mark Tallman, Lena Hall, Aimee Carrero, Eunice Bae, Isabel Marie Gravitt and Donovan Colan. Chatter about an early Your Friends & Neighbors renewal started last month as Apple TV+ executives started screening cuts of the first season. The process quickly gained momentum, with the new season currently being written for a targeted spring production start date, I hear.
The quick renewal is a big vote of confidence and indicative of Apple’s lofty expectations for the drama, which marks Hamm’s first time headlining an ongoing series since his Emmy-winning turn on Mad Men. In Your Friends & Neighbors, after being fired in disgrace, Andrew “Coop” Cooper (Hamm), a hedge fund manager still grappling with his recent divorce, resorts to stealing from the homes of his neighbors in the exceedingly affluent Westmont Village, only to discover that the secrets and affairs hidden behind those wealthy facades might be more dangerous than he ever imagined.
Hailing from Apple Studios and produced by Tropper Ink, Your Friends & Neighbors was created by Tropper, who serves as showrunner and executive producer under his overall deal with Apple TV+. Hamm, who starred in Season 3 of Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, also executive produces alongside Connie Tavel and Episodes 101-102 director Craig Gillespie. Additional episodes were directed by Stephanie Laing, Greg Yaitanes and Tropper.
“I’ve had this show in my head for years, and making it has been a dream come true,” Tropper said. “It’s been an absolute thrill partnering with Hamm, along with Connie Tavel and Craig Gillespie, to bring it to life. The support from everyone at Apple has been phenomenal, and the fact that they’ve ordered a second season before we aired our first is an incredible validation and a tribute to the work of this stellar cast, crew, writers, directors and producers who worked so hard to make this show what it is. We can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
The series will premiere globally on Apple TV+ April 11 with two episodes, followed by one new episode weekly through May 30.
