Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly eyeing a move for Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof, who the Portuguese coach previously signed from Benfica.
United added several defenders to the squad in the summer, raising doubts over Lindelof’s future but the Swede remained at Old Trafford.
There was plenty of speculation linking Lindelof with a move away from United, but a deal never materialised. Fenerbahce were said to be interested and it has been suggested that they’re still tracking the Sweden international ahead of a potential transfer in 2025.
According to Sebah, former United manager Mourinho is keeping an eye on Lindelof, which suggests the centre-back is still on Fenerbahce’s radar.
Lindelof has entered the final 12 months of his deal, which means Fenerbahce could potentially approach him in January to secure a pre-contract agreement which would allow him to join the team in July 2025, or alternatively sign him for a minimum fee in January.
Injuries in defence mean Manchester United need Victor Lindelof
Photo by Michael Regan/Getty ImagesLindelof has struggled for game time due to injury this season, but he came on as a second half substitute in United’s scoreless draw against Aston Villa before the October international break.
Without cover at left-back or right-back, as well as Noussair Mazaroui’s setback, Lindelof is likely to be called upon in the coming weeks.
We expect Diogo Dalot to return to right-back, with Lindelof deployed at left-back.
It’s far from ideal but United need Lindelof right now.
The sooner Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia return the better.
