Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo in recent weeks.
However, journalist Matteo Moretto has now revealed to Football Espana that a move for the 25-year-old defender seems unlikely and Manchester United are more likely to move for the Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt.
Araujo has been linked with a move away from the Spanish club in recent months and he could prove to be a quality acquisition for Manchester United. The Red Devils conceded 58 goals in the league last season and they will need to improve in that department if they want to compete for major trophies.
The likes of Arsenal and Manchester City are far better organised at the back and Manchester United will have to get to that level in order to compete with them. Signing a quality central defender will be a top priority for Manchester United heading into the summer transfer window.

Araujo would have been a quality addition
Raphael Varane has left the club on a free transfer and he will need to be replaced as well. Araujo would have been a quality acquisition for them. The 25-year-old Uruguayan international has proven himself in La Liga and his versatility would have been an added bonus. He can operate as a central defender as well as a full-back.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can wrap up a deal for the Bayern Munich defender now. The 24 year old is a quality defender as well, and he could improve Manchester United at the back.
The Red Devils missed out on Champions League qualification last season and they will have to cut out their defensive mistakes in order to do well next season.
