Real Madrid star Bellingham was accused of making an offensive remark to Greenwood during the match leading to Getafe making an official complaint to La Liga.

The league has now referred the incident to the competition committee of the RFEF, Spain’s football federation.

The committee is set to appoint a judge to investigate the claim and will decide on whether Bellingham will be punished within the next two weeks.

If the Three Lions star is found guilty and the incident is deemed ‘serious’ then a four-game ban would be the likely outcome.

However, if the claim is considered ‘grave,’ the 20-year-old could face a ten-game ban with both Real Madrid and Getafe handed ten days to appeal.

Getafe are unanimous in their opinion that Bellingham used an offensive term to Greenwood despite Madrid’s insistence that evidence is inconclusive.

Moreover, the 14-time European Cup winners are surprised LaLiga has gone to the extent of getting the football federation involved.

The episode has surprised many in Spain due to an unwritten law in LaLiga that sees teams accept that no action will be taken on events not picked up by the match officials.

Therefore, if an incident is missed, then it is to be swept under the rug.

Speaking about the allegation against Bellingham, LaLiga said: "It must also be reported that after the end of the match, messages were detected through social media regarding a possible incident in which visiting player Jude Bellingham allegedly insulted local player Mason Greenwood in English after an action in the game.
