Julia Roberts will receive the Honorary César at the 50th César Awards Ceremony taking at the Olympia Hall in Paris on February 28, 2025.
As it announced the honor, France’s Cesar academy recalled the actress’s performances as Vivian Ward in Garry Marshall’s Pretty Woman opposite Richard Gere, which earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress and an Academy Award nomination.
It also highlighted the variety of her credits spanning romantic comedies such as My Best Friend’s Wedding and Notting Hill to dramas such as The Pelican Brief and Erin Brockovich, for which she won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2001.
The academy also noted her work with renowned directors, such as Steven Soderbergh on Ocean’s Eleven and Mike Nichols on Closer, and Luca Guadagnino on upcoming feature After the Hunt.
“Julia Roberts is not only a movie star but also a cultural icon whose influence extends far beyond her performances,” said the Cesar Academy.
“Off-screen, she is dedicated to philanthropic causes, serving as an ambassador for UNICEF and supporting numerous humanitarian efforts worldwide. An environmental advocate, she has lent her voice to documentaries about protecting the planet and actively campaigns for women’s rights.”
