Leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have voiced concerns over an alleged plot by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to manipulate the party’s primary election scheduled for April 20th.
The Ondo APC leaders, represented by the Ondo Vanguards for Good Governance, accused Governor Aiyedatiwa of orchestrating the production of fake membership registers and cards ahead of the primary.
According to the group’s coordinator, Evangelist Tade Ojo, speaking in Akure, the actions of Aiyedatiwa’s supporters indicate an attempt to rig or discredit the primary due to their anticipated defeat. Ojo emphasized the need to expose these disruptive acts, expressing skepticism that the fake documents could deceive the national committee responsible for conducting the primary election.
“We use this opportunity to call on the national leadership of the APC and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to allow Aiyedatiwa and his collaborating desperados to disrupt the APC primary in Ondo State,” Ojo stated. “Ondo State is larger than all of us, including Governor Aiyedatiwa. We are convinced that they are prepared to spill the milk if they cannot have it.”
However, Kayode Fasua, spokesman for the Lucky Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organization Foot Soldiers (LACO-FS), dismissed the allegations as baseless, attributing them to “jittery aspirants.” Fasua asserted that the primary election is an internal affair of the APC and emphasized the impartial treatment of all aspirants, including the Governor, in the electoral process.
“Governor Aiyedatiwa or his supporters are far removed from this lie of printing fake membership cards, as alleged by jittery aspirants hiding behind fingers,” Fasua stated. “The allegation of the governor unleashing terror or destroying billboards is trite and unappealing to the public, because the Police have never for once heard of such complaints.”
