Eddie Howe’s hopes of getting through this international break without additional injuries have now ended, with news of Lewis Miley facing a spell out of action.

The Newcastle United midfielder having picked up an injury whilst on England under 20s duty.

Eddie Howe now awaiting the results of scans with Lewis Miley having a back problem now.

With the midfielder having initial estimates of anything up to six weeks or more out of action, it could well be that this will be the last we see of Lewis Miley for this season.

With only seven and a half weeks until the end of the season, even if (hopefully!) the back issue turns out to be on the more positive side of the initial estimates, Eddie Howe and Newcastle United may think it best to keep Lewis Miley out of the firing line for the duration of this campaign. Allow him some valuable rest and recuperation after the shift he has put in for NUFC this season as a 17 year old.

Craig Hope of The Mail – 26 May 2024:

“Lewis Miley has suffered a back injury on international duty with England U20s

“Newcastle awaiting results of scan before determining length of absence, but several weeks as minimum.”

Luke Edwards of The Telegraph – 26 March 2024:

“Lewis Miley out for an estimated six weeks.”

“It’s a back injury.

“Has been sent for a scan.

“This is the early diagnosis and at his age you need to be very careful with back problems.”

“From what I’m hearing I doubt we will see him again this season.

“He’s still growing and this is why coaching staff were worried about his workload.

“Winter injury crisis meant he had to play far more than anyone planned.

“He’ll be fine but the young man needs to rest I think.”
