William Gallas has been talking about Alexander Isak and Newcastle United.

The former Arsenal captain asked about the chances of his old club signing the Sweden international in January.

His answer; “Isak from Newcastle? Forget him.”

However, William Gallas believes that longer-term, Alexander Isak remaining at Newcastle United will depend on whether or not Eddie Howe’s side get Champions League football.

Gallas predicting a summer exit if Newcastle don’t qualify for the top European competition this season.

Former Arsenal captain William Gallas asked the question:

‘It’s hard to make signings in January but do you think Arsenal should try and do something?’

“I know it would be very difficult to bring a big, big player in to the team in January.

“Isak from Newcastle? Forget him.

“Newcastle won’t let him go because they need him until the end of the season to try to qualify for the Champions League, and then they’re going to sell him if they don’t make it, so Arsenal fans have to forget about him, and think who else can come?

“That is a problem especially for the big clubs, everyone knows that you do your shopping in the summer.

“You don’t wait and just believe in the squad. You have to improve every single season.

“It’s been two or three years we’ve been talking about Arsenal missing a world-class striker.

“People from outside can see what the problem is. How, as a manager, can’t you see the problem?”

The way I see it, is that if Newcastle United do qualify for the Champions League this season, then I would be very confident of United hanging on to Alexander Isak and indeed all of our key players. I think all of them will be happy to stay, whilst with Isak and all of the other top NUFC players being on decent length contracts, the club will have no intention of selling any of them.

If though Newcastle don’t secure Champions League football for next season, then I do think we move into the unknown.

It is common sense that if you have top top players like Alexander Isak and others, then other clubs will desire them. So if there is no Champions League football at St James’ Park and/or the potential to succeed and win trophies, then you are in a more vulnerable position.

However, whatever happens, no way that Alexander Isak would end up at Arsenal. If, for whatever reason, he was to leave Newcastle United, he would get a far better club than them.

With the recent Newcastle United form AND the fact that the Premier League are massive favourites to get a fifth Champions League spot, due to results of PL clubs in European competitions this season. That means the chances of keeping this Newcastle United squad intact AND then building on it, is very much in our own hands. Starting with hopefully a win tonight over Wolves that would take Eddie Howe’s side into the Premier League top four.
