Juventus are reportedly looking to reunite Thiago Motta with his old Bologna pupil Joshua Zirkzee who has yet to find his feet at Manchester United.
The 23-year-old is coming off a sensational campaign at Bologna which culminated in a historic qualification for the Champions League. This attracted the interest of the Red Devils who splashed circa £36.5 million to secure his services.
However, Zirkzee couldn’t prove his worth under the guidance of his compatriot Erik ten Hag, and aside from his brace against Everton, it has been more of the same with Ruben Amorim in charge.
Many believe that the Netherlands international doesn’t exactly fit the mold desired by the Portuguese tactician who is seeking an out-and-out bomber, while Zirkzee tends to roam all over the pitch. For his part, Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst feels the summer signing is simply “out of his depth” at Old Trafford, and is unlikely to gain much playing in Amorim’s regime.
Juventus still keen on signing Joshua Zirkzee from Man United
Nevertheless, the former Bayern Munich man still has a strong reputation in the Italian peninsula, especially at Juventus with his old mentor Motta taking over.
According to Tuttosport (via Tutto Mercato Web), the Serie A giants refuse to give up on signing Zirkzee.
The Turin-based newspaper believes the Old Lady’s chances would receive a major boost if Man United decide to pursue another striker, as they will likely have to sell the Dutchman to make room for the new arrival.
The source adds that a significant meeting between Man United officials and Zirkzee’s agent Kia Joorabchian should ensue in the next few days. The player’s representative will inquire about the club’s transfer strategy and try to learn where his client fits in the equation, while Juventus will be monitoring the situation from afar with great interest.
