Kate Middleton has had abdominal surgery in London and won’t be seen in public for months.
A statement from Kensington Palace, where she used to reside, said the wife of Prince William will not return to public duties “until after Easter,” a lengthy time out the limelight.
Kensington Palace did not confirm further details of Middleton’s treatment but the statement posted on X said she will be in hospital for two to three weeks and recovery will take two to three months.
“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to The London Clinic yesterday for planned abdominal surgery,” said the statement. “The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery.”
The palace added that Middleton is aware of the interest her surgery will generate and hopes the public “will understand her desire to maintain as much normality for her children as possible”.
It said it will “only provide updates on Her Royal Highness’ progress when there is significant new information to share.”
Middleton hasn’t spent so much time away from public duties since marrying Prince William. Her husband’s father is King Charles III and he is heir to the throne. Middleton was played by newcomer Meg Bellamy in the latest season of Netflix’s The Crown, which came out late last year.
