Katy Perry was asked about choosing to work with Dr. Luke on her upcoming album, 143.

Dr. Luke notably faced allegations of abuse from Kesha (which he denied), leading to a decade of legal battles that ultimately ended in 2023.

While making an appearance on Call Her Daddy, Katy spoke about being in past relationships with narcissists who “couldn’t handle me in boss mode.”

She was then asked about the choice to work with Dr. Luke again. Katy and Dr. Luke previously worked together on many of her biggest hits including “I Kissed a Girl,” “Last Friday Night,” “California Gurls,” “E.T.,” “The One That Got Away,” “Dark Horse,” “Unconditionally,” and “Roar.”

Katy then responded, without directly naming Dr. Luke.

She said on the podcast, “I understand that it started a lot of conversations and he was one of many collaborators that I collaborated with. But the reality is, it comes from me. The truth is, I wrote these songs from my experience of my whole life going through this metamorphosis, and he was one of the people to help facilitate all that. One of the writers, one of the producers.”

She continued, “I am speaking from my own experience. When I speak about ‘Woman’s World,’ I speak about feeling so empowered now, as a mother, as a woman, giving birth, creating life, creating another set of organs….And I did it, and I’m still doing it. I’m still a matriarch and feeling really grounded in that. That’s where I’m speaking from. So I created all of this with several different collaborators, people that I’ve collaborated with from the past, from ‘Teenage Dream’ era. All of that.”

For some backstory, Kesha accused Dr. Luke of mistreatment and sexual assault back in 2014.

Katy was involved in the legal battle, providing a deposition and at one point, was spoken about in text messages made public in court documents.
